GreenStop Rest Stop
TULARE, CA - This rest stop prototype for CALTRANS is composed of equal parts landscape,"softscape," and architectural construction, into which relatively costly infrastructural components can be inserted as needed.
Using a toolkit of hard-wearing standard components (triangulated framing, board-and-batten siding, concrete slab-and-trench) borrowed from typical agricultural structures (barns, milking sheds, maintenance buildings), the Greenstop spine utilizes easily-replicated, low-cost construction that references the typologies of the Central Valley corridor.
In combination, these components contribute to a network of power, water, and material resources that ensure off-the-grid performance throughout the year.
